Group Leader - Jean McCallum If you would like to know more about this group or are interested in joining it then contact us here. What can we do to cut down on the waste we create? Perhaps you are already doing something. Whether you are, or you aren’t, why not resolve right now to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle? Every little bit really does make a difference, and for those of us already doing a little, every little bit more makes more of a difference! Here are some simple ideas. This page will be refreshed with new ideas every few weeks. Have you got some ideas too – then please get in touch! Reduce the amount of energy you use by: - Switching off appliances, not leaving them on standby - Only boiling the required amount of water in the kettle, don’t fill it up unnecessarily - Walking to the local shop for that paper or milk – good for you and good for the environment - Using public transport to get to work if possible – also good for you ( because you’ll probably have a walk at both ends) and good for the environment Reuse: - Plastic shopping bags, not just for your food shopping but for any shopping - Plastic bottles for water, don’t buy new ones all the time; in particular encourage the younger generation to do this Recycle: - Do you know how many things you can now recycle? Here are some suggestions above and beyond the usual cans, bottles, papers and cardboard. - Recycle aluminium foil with metal cans (rinse off, doesn’t have to be perfectly clean), include foil bases from pies etc - Plastic wrappings (the kind that stretches when you pull it gently) can be recycled with plastic bags at the big food retailers; examples – the wrapping around magazines that come through the post, bags from loaves of bread, bags that some fruit and veg come in, bags that many frozen veg come in |
