Apple Day 3 - 2011
Our 3rd Apple Day held on 28th August 2011 at the Pavilion in Rouken Glen Park, was yet another great success.
Nearly 1000 people attended our event which was part of the programme of Food Festival events.
This year’s event offered some challenges to us giving the unpredictable weather and the event being staged earlier than in previous years as less apples were ripe and ready.Keith Stoddart, Go Greener’s treasurer and event organiser said: “We are grateful to local businesses and local shops for their continued support. We are also pleased at the commitment of all our stall holders.”
Popular attractions at the event included a bee hive display that demonstrated the importance of these pollinators in our food supply. The DIY apple press also attracted crowds under the close supervision of John Hancox from the Community Orchard.
Keith Stoddart added: “It is really important that the younger generation can connect more with food supply origins.
“From the humble start of an idea this event has become a key event in the annual character promoting the important of local food production, minimising waste as a component to reducing carbon footprint.
“Go Greener looks forward to future years' developments especially in establishing more links with other local community groups as the community heritage orchard will officially be in place next year.”
Below are some photos of the day and there will be more to come.
