Gogreener Day was a great success!
The event in the Eastwood Park Theatre/Carmichael Hall facility in Eastwood Park saw a farmers market,

stalls including the Science Centre Exhibition, the 'Screamometer' (how loud are you!) green transport and products, etc.

The Dunterlie Artists had designed a number of displays. A number of big name sponsors also contributed stands. The day was very busy with approaching a thousand people attending over the course of a beautiful sunny day. Stagecoach even had their bio bus (runs on used chip oil) shuttling between Giffnock and Barrhead.
In the Theatre visitors were entertained by Sounds International choir, young Barrhead singer Caitlin McMillan and recording Country artist Mary Kathleen Burke.

In addition to this people were given a showing of a specially produced video about Climate Change and what people can do to prevent it, presented by Williamwood High School pupil Fiona Joice who also appeared in a short Eco Drama along with other Williamwood pupils. On a more serious side there were presentations from Councillor Alison Hay ('Calculate your Carbon Footprint') and Evan Williams ('An Inconvenient Truth').

Finally soap star Jenni Keenan Green introduced world environmentalist Chris Hines who gave a fascinating lecture about what we can do to organize against global warming. The entire event was ably hosted by former BBC Scotland front man Bob Wylie.
Councillor Eddie Phillips who is Chair of the Go Greener organization told me "I can only measure success by how many people were there, how many names we collected of people interested in joining Go Greener and by comments people made to me. A couple that stick out are one lady who was unimpressed with Friends of the Earth -she was a member - and wanted to get active with us instead! Another from a visitor from the USA who was visibly impressed and wanted to know what he could do to organise something like it when he went home. I will also remember a couple of the Dunterlie Artists who came to me and said 'right Eddie we're in! We want to get active what can we do?' They certainly came to the right person!"
Asked about the future of Go Greener Eddie told me "we will be holding a Core Group meeting next week to assess the situation. We now have several hundred names of interested people who want to get involved and they can be certain that we will be in contact with them very soon. Go Greener is an activists organization and we plan to campaign on a number of issues. We want to do our bit to prevent climate change. Go Greener Day is a launchpad for this organization to go from strength to strength, growing in both size and influence. People should join us. We mean business!"
